Meeting Tom, the welsh creative behind typographic rave brand Nightlabs, talking inspirations, challenges and more.

Where did it start for you?

NIGHTLABS is a Welsh, unisex streetwear brand that was created earlier this year, The aesthetics coming from rave culture and the night time. Limited quantity collections featuring Loud but minimal aesthetics are on offer, with colour blind friendly colourways. Not even half a year into starting up, NIGHTLABS has built a small following that go mad on every drop.

what challenges have you faced in the industry?

it's been a huge challenge to manage the work load, Having to balance my third year at university, playing football, working part-time and running NIGHTLABS. Also, being based in a small town in South Wales that no one has heard of, makes it a lot harder to break into the market, as you don’t really have access to the wider customer base. There are a lot less opportunities in the area in comparison to more metropolitan places. However, the sense of community in this area has been proved with all the support they have shown.

What does ‘nobody likes us except us’ mean to you?

Standing out, being bold. Nobody likes us unless we fit in. You gotta be yourself and ignore what people think. At NIGHTLABS we go against the norms. That's why nobody likes us except us.

What have you been working on and whats next up?

The 001 collection was a blast, selling out was more than we ever expected. This really motivated NIGHTLABS to push on and realise the brand has potential. 002 is next, got some mad products designed. Further into the future we have crazy ideas as the brand grows and we look to grow our customer base, attend pop ups and most importantly when life goes back to normal after covid-19, host a rave for the NIGHTLABS fam!
