A sit down with arielle, fashion blogger, designer and owner of prettygyalbags, a sustainable hand made bag business based in brighton.

give us an introduction to yourself

My name is Arielle also known as Rimade. I am 19 and a Womenswear designer from South London. I am the owner and the designer of Prettygyalbags, A sustainable handmade bag business. I have also been a design consultant, freelance designer, styling assistant and sustainable fashion writer. I use my work to tell the story of others. However I think of myself more as an artist than a designer and fabric is just my medium.

What challenges have you faced in the industry?

The barriers to entry for this industry are quite high, So going in with no connections, I knew it was going to be difficult. They say when you like something you should make it your whole life. I would send out so many emails with no response, I used to carry my portfolio everywhere and show it to any creatives I met, and Finally at 15 I got my first internship with a designer. That’s when the ball began rolling for me.

What does ‘nobody likes us except us’ mean to you?

To me it means that there is no one with our passion, drive and determination to create. Not for monetary gain but for fulfilment.

What have you been working on and what’s next up for you?

To continuously grow and build my bag brand which has sparked interest from some high profile designers. In addition, the brand was featured in a few pop up stores and magazines. I am currently collaborating with a streetwear brand [Poserboy] to bring out a womenswear collection. Hopefully i’ll be able to release my first capsule collection early next year.
